Advisory Committee for Transformation and Strategy of the South African Mathematical Society
Acknowledging that the inequalities of opportunity, as well as the international academic boycott of apartheid South Africa, had negatively impacted the development of mathematics in South Africa, there is a need for an immersive transformative work within the South African Mathematical Society. To help SAMS with identifying a strategy for such immersive transformative work, the President of SAMS proposed in April 2023 to the SAMS Council the creation, within SAMS, of ACTS: the Advisory Committee for Transformation and Strategy. The proposal was approved by the SAMS Council in May 2023.
