%%PLEASE DISSEMINATE WITHIN YOUR DEPARTEMENT/SCHOOL TO ENSURE THAT NON-MEMBERS ARE ALSO REACHED%%
Dear Members of the South African Mathematical Society,
The Council of the South African Mathematical Society (SAMS) would like to encourage continued growth of our Society through new memberships and renewed commitments from our existing members.
We warmly invite all colleagues, students, teachers, and professionals with an interest in Mathematics to consider joining SAMS in 2026. In particular, we encourage current members to actively recruit eligible staff, students, teachers, and industry contacts to become part of our mathematical community.
We are pleased to highlight the introduction of a new Associate Membership category for 2026. This category is open to anyone with an interest in Mathematics. Associate members will enjoy the benefits of being part of the Society’s community and activities, though they will not have voting rights nor be eligible to serve on Council. We believe this option will be especially attractive to undergraduate students, teachers, and professionals in industry, and we encourage you to share this opportunity widely within your networks.
We also invite Heads of Department to explore the possibility of their universities joining SAMS as institutional members, thereby further strengthening support for the Society.
Details regarding the application process (including the 2026 application form) are available on the SAMS website:
https://www.sams.ac.za/joining-sams/
We further remind active members that the annual membership fees for 2026 are now due. The fee structure for 2026 is as follows:
- Full Member – R550
- Institutional Member – R950
- Special Member – R175
- Associate Member – R275
We kindly ask members to ensure that their contact information and membership fees are up to date. For queries regarding your financial standing or to update your details, please contact the SAMS Financial Manager (fm@sams.ac.za) or the SAMS Accountant (eldine@ensass.co.za). If your membership is up to date but you are not receiving the weekly SAMS Digest, please inform us at webmaster@sams.ac.za.
These yearly contributions are vital in supporting the activities and initiatives of SAMS. It is our sincere hope that the Society will continue to grow and, in doing so, enhance the Society’s impact on the Mathematics community in South Africa..
Thank you for your continued commitment to SAMS.
Yours sincerely,
Francois Schulz
