Functional Analysis and Operator Theory South Africa 2025 Workshop

Functional Analysis and Operator Theory South Africa

2025 Workshop

29 November – 1 December 2025, Nelson Mandela University

Due to other functional analysis events throughout 2025, we decided to have the FAOTSA 2025 workshop team up with the 68th Congress of the South African Mathematical Society (SAMS), both at Nelson Mandela University in the Eastern Cape. The FAOTSA workshop will be from 29 November till 1 December and comprises two minicourses, while the SAMS congress will be from 2 to 5 December. Participants of FAOTSA 2025 are encouraged to give a talk in the Functional Analysis and Operator Theory session at the SAMS congress. We hope to welcome you at the fourth FAOTSA workshop at Nelson Mandela University.

Minicourse 1

  • Title: Semigroups of Operators and Applications
  • Presenter: Jacek Banasiak (University of Pretoria)

Minicourse 2

  • Title: Quantum Convexity and Noncommutative Ordered Spaces
  • Presenter: David Blecher (University of Houston, USA)

Important dates:

  • Early bird registration deadline (for those who need funding): 26 September
  • Final registration deadline: 1 November

Registration: To attend FAOTSA 2025, please register on the workshop’s website listed below. Those that qualify and require financial support, should register before the early bird registration deadline, since we will try to select the funded participants once the early bird registration closes.

Cost of participation: There will be no registration fee for the workshop. If funding allows, we will provide lunches as part of the program. Participants are required to arrange their own accommodation and transport.

SAMS Congress at NMU: Registration for the SAMS congress is independent of the registration for FAOTSA. More details on the SAMS congress will be made available on the FAOTSA website.

Support for postgraduate students and early career academics: We obtained funding from CoE-MaSS to support the attendance of a limited number of postgraduate students, postdocs and early career academics (<5 years from PhD). Those who qualify and require support, should apply before the early bird registration deadline and fill out all the required fields. We have also received funding from the London Mathematical Society to support a very limited number of international participants from other African countries.

Kindly share this announcement, available in pdf format from the link below, with those who may be interested to attend the Workshop.
