Registration is now open for the 2024 South African Numerical and
Applied Mathematics Symposium, SANUM2024.

The conference will be held from Weds 03 to Friday 05 April, 2024
in Stellenbosch, with a pre-conference workshop Tues 02 to Weds
03 April on the Julia programming language and its SciML and DiffEq
packages.

Plenary speakers include:

Annie Cuyt (University of Antwerp)
Charis Harley (UJ)
Jean Lubuma (Wits)
Sibusiso Moyo (SU)
Sheehan Olver (Imperial College London)

Functional Analysis and Operator Theory South Africa 2024 Workshop

This workshop will be held at the AIMS Centre in Muizenberg, Cape Town, from 17 to 19 March 2024. The abstract submission deadline is 17 February 2024. Please see the announcement file below, for more information.

Note that there was a slight change of plan. The organizers of the Siyakhula festival at AIMS asked us to arrange the registration for the workshop ourselves. The FAOTSA 2024 website

has now been updated, and registration is possible by going to the registration page (button in the right-upper corner). There is only limited capacity for the workshop, so please register soon. The attached file is an updated version of the announcement that was circulated with the earlier e-mail.

The Siyakhula festival program includes a poster presentation session, and students that do not plan to give a talk in the workshop are encouraged to present a poster in this session.

Special issue of Quaestiones Mathematicae in honour of Horst Herrlich

It is a great pleasure to announce the appearance of a special issue of Quaestiones Mathematicae in honour of Horst Herrlich, who has been on the editorial board of the journal from the first volume in 1976 till his passing in 2015:

Apart from interesting research papers, there is also a contribution about Horst Herrlich and his influence on mathematical research in South Africa. The publisher decided to make the full issue available in ‘free access’ format till the end of February 2024.

areas of research in the Department, which include Algebra, (Functional) Analysis, Category Theory, Classical and
Quantum Chaos, Computational Complexity, Cosmology, General Relativity, Graph Theory, Homology, Lie Theory,
